3D modelling service for furniture manufacturers
Odaform brings furniture manufacturers' products into the 3D room planning platform used by their retailers. If you have existing 3D models, they are optimised for the platform; if you have none, with the Premium package our team creates 3D models of your products from dimensions, technical drawings and photos. Models are true to size and work with your collection's colour and finish options.
Why does furniture need 3D modelling?
3D room planning is only as accurate as the 3D model behind each product. When a retailer sets up a customer's room, whether the wardrobe fits next to the window or the bed enters the door's swing area is calculated from that model's dimensions. A model with the wrong size or an unrealistic finish steers the customer's decision the wrong way.
That is why every product in Odaform has its own 3D model. The platform does not use a generic furniture library; your retailers see only your products, with your dimensions and finish options.
Render models versus platform models
Furniture 3D modelling is often associated with renders for catalogues and advertising. Models built for rendering aim to produce a single photorealistic image. In a room planning platform, the model opens instantly in a web browser, on the retailer's computer or tablet or on the customer's phone, and is moved around the room.
A platform model therefore has different requirements:
- True size. The model matches the product's real width, depth and height; placement, overlap and door checks in the room use these dimensions.
- Separate materials. Colour and finish options are defined as separate materials, so the retailer applies a collection option to every product in one tap.
- Fast loading. Models are optimised to open quickly in the browser; textures are downsized and file size is reduced.
- Moving parts. Wardrobe doors are prepared as separate parts, so the customer can zoom in, open the doors and check the interior.
What is needed for modelling?
Your products do not need existing 3D models. The following information is sufficient for modelling:
- Product dimensions (width, depth, height).
- Technical drawings.
- Photos of the product from different angles.
- Colour and finish samples.
Our team builds the models from this information and refines materials and textures; they are then added to the platform together with your logo and brand colours.
If you already have 3D models
If you already have 3D models, you can use the platform without the modelling service. Models sent according to the delivery spec below are optimised for the platform:
- Format: GLB, glTF, FBX or OBJ; one file per product. Please contact us for other formats.
- Metres and real dimensions; pivot at the centre of the product base.
- PBR materials (base colour, normal, roughness) with descriptive material names.
- Textures up to 2048 px; a reasonable polygon count per product.
- Colour and finish options as separate materials.
How are the models used in the platform?
The finished models become available to all your retailers at once. In the showroom, together with the customer, retailers:
- place products in the room at their real size, against the walls and never overlapping,
- compare the collection's colour and finish options,
- zoom in, open the doors and check the interior and dimensions,
- save the room under a design code, which the customer opens on their phone or in a VR headset via a QR code,
- prepare a quote PDF from the selected products on the same screen.
Which package includes 3D modelling?
Odaform comes in three packages. Basic covers 3D room planning, quote PDFs, VR sharing and saved designs for your retailer network; Pro adds the headquarters management panel. Premium includes all Pro features plus our 3D modelling service: your product models are built from dimensions, technical drawings and photos, with ongoing modelling support for new products.
Pricing depends on the number of retailers and the scope of your catalogue, so we prepare a tailored proposal for your company.
